Since the proposed electric vehicle (EV) employs four electric motors as steering drives in a Four-in-wheel-motor Drive (FWMD) Electric Vehicle, an additional power is needed to create extra torques in an in-situ steering status. This paper is to design a novel method to form a cooperative model between the steering motors and the in-wheel motors to reduce the power demands in an in-situ steering operation. According to the results of simulation and experiment, this design can effectively reduce the steering motor power needed in the in-situ steering operation.
