Investment, consumption and exports are the “three carriages” driving China's economy. Therefore, in order to maintain rapid economic growth, we must fully tap the huge potential of Chinese residents' consumption. This article uses comparative analysis methods to study the consumption factors of Chinese urban and rural residents in the past five years, and focuses on the analysis of various consumptions of urban and rural residents in 2019. The results of the study show that, with the rapid development of the Internet, the development of electronic finance has a significant impact on residents' consumption. The development of e-commerce has not only improved the consumption capacity of rural residents, but also stimulated the consumption potential of rural areas and narrowed the gap with urban areas. Moreover, the development of e-commerce can affect the income level of urban and rural residents, and indirectly affect the consumption gap between urban and rural residents.
