Synthesis and Properties of Doubly Linked Norcorrole Dimer

In the last two decades,the fused aromatic oligomers bearing multiple direct linkageshave been widely investigated.They often display largely perturbed optical and electronicproperties owing to expanded p-conjugated networks.However,such studies on fusedantiaromatic oligomers remain unexplored because antiaromatic compounds are inherentunstable.In 2012,Shinokubo et al.reported an antiaromatic porphyrinoid,norcorrole.1Norcorrole is a ring-contracted porphyrin with a 16π-conjugated structure,which lacks twomeso-carbons from a regular porphyrin.In spite of its distinct antiaromaticity,norcorroleNi(II) complex exhibited remarkable stability.To date,our research group has pursuednovel phenomena derived from its antiaromaticity.
