Given that the oxidative addition of aziridines to d transition-metal complexes proceeds in a regioselective and stereospecific fashion, diverse catalytic transformations of aziridines into functionalized amines in a highly regio- and stereo-controlled manner are feasible. Over the past several years, Ni- and Pd-catalyzed regioselective ring-opening cross-coupling reactions utilizing aziridines as a non-classical alkyl electrophile have been emerging as a powerful synthetic method for b-functionalized amine compounds.
