We have investigated the syntheses and physicochemical properties of homoleptic and heteroleptic triple-decker sandwich dinuclear Lu(III) complexes containing peripherally octasubstituted and/or unsubstituted phthalocyaninates (TD’s). The heteroleptic TD’s are prepared by the reactions of a green form of homoleptic or heteroleptic double-decker sandwich mononuclear complexes (DD’s;; radical species) with an appropriate single-decker mononuclear complexes (SD’s) in chlorinated aromatic hydrocarbon solvents. Recently, we have been studying the synthesis of the series of TD’s containing unsubstituted phthalocyaninate (Pc) and 2,3,9,10,16,17,23,24-octamethylphthalocyaninate (omPc), and have obtained the heteroleptic TD, [(Pc)Lu(Pc)Lu(omPc)], by the reaction of the homoleptic DD of Pc, [Lu(Pc)2], with the SD of omPc, [Lu(CH3COO)(omPc)].
