Methods to evaluate enzyme activities in malignant tissues can provide information for effective biomarkers to guide cancer detection. The fluorescence-guided detection of cancer is one of the most promising approaches to improve cytoreduction efficiency. Our research group have developed activatable type aminopeptidase-reactive fluorescent probes1 and successfully detected human breast and esophageal cancer within a few minutes by topically spraying probe solutions. However, there are many malignancies that have not yet been detected by these fluorescent probes owing to the lack of obvious difference in aminopeptidase activity between cancer and normal tissue.
