This research uses the finite element analysis software MSC.MARC to analyze the welding deformation, as well as the residual stress, of 6 mm thick stainless steel plates, type SUS304. The discussion includes the usefulness of applying jigs during the welding process and how this impacts the resulting welded structure, when pressure is applied. Thus, the influence on residual stress as well as deformation is included. Furthermore, the most beneficial positioning of the jigs to inhibit welding deformation is discussed.
