The Jingjiang Reach is located between Zhicheng and Chenglingji in the Middle Yangtze River (MYR), with a length of 347 km, and there are three diversion branches linking the MYR with the Dongting Lake. These branches usually divert water from the main stream during flood seasons but are normally dry during non-flood seasons. At the exit of the Jingjiang Reach, there is a confluence zone at Chenglingji due to a tributary from the Dongting Lake. With the operation of the Three Gorges Project (TGP), the sediment load entering the Jingjiang Reach has been greatly reduced, which leads to remarkable channel adjustments in the reach.
