Vibriosis is the main cause of production loss due to bacterial disease in penaeid shrimp farms and outbreaks cause mortality up to nearly 100% of the affected population (Sarjito et al., 2012). Studies have shown that the bacterial storage compound poly-p-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) can be used to protect Artemiafranciscana from pathogenic Vibrio campbellii (Defoirdt et al., 2007). The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of PHB, optimized for bioavailability, on the whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) challenged with pathogenic Vibrio alginolyticus.
