The wide variability in egg quality and dependence on wild-caught broodstock to produce high quality larvae and juveniles are still limiting factors in Atlantic cod aquaculture. Most studies on this fish have investigated the biochemical profile of eggs, particularly lipids and fatty acids, which have been associated to egg and larval quality. However, the different genes expressed during development that may have an impact on egg and larval quality remains to be elucidated. In this study, we investigated the profiles of several genes involved in apoptosis (casp3, casp8, ccarl, bcl-x2, mcll, and tptl), immunity (bty, cathl, ifng, Mb, U6, H8, MO, lyzg, and tfd), oxidative stress (cat, gpx4, gsh-px, hsp70, hsp90a, and sodl), and stress axis (crh,pomc, grll, and mrl) during Atlantic cod development using real-time PCR (qPCR)- transcript levels in samples from wild (WB) and farmed broodstock (FB) were compared.
