Thermal environment of natural ventilated preschool buildings in warm-humid climates

This paper appraises the indoor thermal environment of two natural ventilated pre-school buildings in Shah Alam city, Selangor. The physical measurement and survey questionnaires on thermal comfort were conducted among the teachers. The results obtained showed that mean temperature and relative humidity of both pre-school buildings were exceeded the standard, while for air velocity was still in suggested standard. The calculated Prediction Mean Vote (PMV) for both pre-school buildings were 0.9 which indicate ‘slightly warm’ condition and 1.2 which indicate ‘warm’ condition, respectively. Predicted Percentage Dissatisfied (PPD) indices computed for both pre-school building was above than 20% was considered dissatisfied. The computed Thermal Sensation Vote (TSV) indicates that teachers considered the indoor thermal to be ‘neutral’ for both pre-school buildings. These findings show that calculated thermal states are not necessarily correlated to occupant's desired thermal state.
