INDUSTRY-INSTITUTE INTERACTION THROUGH IMPLEMENTATION OF LONG-TERM MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING: MOU BASED CASE STUDY BETWEEN COCHIN SHIPYARD LIMITED, KOCHI AND COCHIN UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, KOCHI, INDIA

Industry - Institute is a buzz word in the field of professional development activities in engineering and technology education. An active interaction in this regard is practically difficult to achieve due to many reasons which are attributed to the very dissimilarities in the structure of the both. However, after years long active involvement in each other working domain, Cochin Shipyard and Cochin University of Science and Technology, both located in the city of Kochi, India, has come to a common working platform with help of a long-term Memorandum of Understanding. This paper aims to throw some light on the working of the MoU with the help of some academic and industrial exchange activities between them. Sharing of academic work load of the Department of Ship Technology by experienced engineers and managers from Cochin Shipyard Limited and proposal by Department of Ship Technology for Capturing of Shipbuilding/repair Experience in Cochin Shipyard with a Software based system are some of the case studies included in the paper. The paper also presents some of important future mutual technology transfer plans under the MoU.
