The anal sacs are a paired invagination of the mucocutaneous lining within the ventrolateral area of the perineum (1). Each anal sac has its duct that empties into the anal canal. In the connective tissue surrounding the anal sac are apocrine glands that empty in the lumen of the anal sac (1). Additionally in the cat, there are sebaceous glands that empty their secretions in the anal sac lumen (1).
