In recent years, cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) have attracted much attention for preparing high performance nanocomposites as they are highly crystalline bio-nanofibers with many unique and desirable features. Thus, CNCs-based nano-materials such as cellulose nanowhiskers (CNWs) and cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) are being employed for fabricating a wide variety of nanocomposites in combination with polymers. The purpose of this work was to characterize cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) and compare heir reinforcement in polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-based nanocomposites.
