Peruvian Amazon Electrification Case Study. 'A Mutually Beneficial Relationship: Decentralized Energy and Micro Hydropower'

Decentralized energy is commonly represented by diesel generators or photovoltaic panels. This is true especially in remote areas of countries with low electrification rates where decentralized energy supply is often times the only option, whereasin industrialized countries where decentralized energy supply often represents the individual choice for self-sufficiency. Our case study from an electrification project in the Peruvian Amazon shows how micro hydropower fits into the schematic of decentralized energy supply and can contribute to the needed capacity.
