The contrast of radiographic images is provided at physical level by anti-scatter grids and is usually further improved at image processing stage. The known contrast improvement methods are mainly based on image non-linear manipulations that may cause residual artifacts in processed images. In this paper an artifact-free approach is proposed for radiographic image filtering which is still an actual problem. The proposed algorithm is based on homomorphic equalizer design and application for image contrast enhancement, sharpening and artifacts elimination. Experimental results are discussed and concluded with description of advantages over existing approaches.
