Acacia Senegal provides building poles; hedging material and fuel wood for local use, and its roots are used for lining wells and thatching baskets. Acacia Senegal yields 95% of the gum arabic exported from the Sudan, the remaining (5%) coming from Acacia seyal var. seyal (Talha in arabic). Gum arabic is a natural product obtained from tapping A. Senegal trees (Figures 1 and 2), the product is defined as the dried exudates obtained from the stems and branches of A. Senegal and some other related tree species. Gum arabic is of major economic importance to the Sudan and other African countries. The economic importance of gum arabic has been well documented.
