PowerGen Europe 2016, Milan Jun 21-24, 2016 Mitsubishi Hitachi 50 Hz Gas Turbine Update

Mitsubishi Hitachi Power System 50Hz offerings have had important keystone events in the last few months. Levering the J series experience from seventeen 60H M501J units currently in commercial operation, two of the 50Hz counterpart (M701J) were manufactured for a combined cycle plant in Japan. The first unit has started commercial operation after a very smooth commissioning. With 470 MW, this is the largest gas turbine in operation in the world. The second unit is currently in advanced commissioning stage and is scheduled to go commercial in 2016. The latest 50 Hz F upgrade, the M701F5, featuring 1,500 °C Class Turbine Inlet Temperature (TIT) for 500MW in a 1:1 combined cycle configuration has also started commercial operation at another combined cycle plant in Japan. The higher turbine inlet temperature is being applied to the M701F5 design by incorporating J technology to the preceding upgrade called M701F4. The structural features and robust compressor of this successful upgrade are retained in the F5. Two additional M701F5 units are currently in commissioning in Thailand and are expected to go commercial in the 2Q of 2016. This paper presents and update of the latest 50 Hz offerings.
