Pumped Storage Power in Austria - Experience, New Projects, Economic Situation

More than 3400 MW of pumped storage capacity are currently supplying the Austrian transmission grid [1]. While formerly used solely for shifting energy from peak times into off- peak times, their role in the future will be a lot more diverse. The development of wind and solar energy lead to changing demands on the electrical supply system.
