Evaluation and classification of the Siegenian Formation reservoir in Devonian, X block, Algeria

Based on the identification of rock slice and cast thin sections, the observation of scanning electron microscopy, the technology of high pressure Hg injection and X-ray diffraction analysis of clay minerals, the Siegenian Formation reservoir in Devonian, X block, was evaluated and classified. The reservoir is a tight sandstone reservoir with relatively poor porosity and low permeability and it is divided into three types: mesopore-ultra low permeability reservoir (type I), low-middle porosity-ultra low permeability reservoir (type II) and low porosity-ultra low permeability reservoir (type HI). The type II is the main reservoir in this area. The conclusions are useful for the petroleum exploration in future.
