The green pellets sizing is one of the most important variables of the pelletizing process. According to Kurt Meyer ("Pelletizing of Iron Ores") good gas permeability and an efficient gas flow through a pellet bed are achieved if the pellet diameter is within a close range. In order to increase the proportion of green pellets in the range of optimal size, reduce unwanted fractions, optimize the process in relation to: standard deviation reduction of particle size distribution, furnace productivity increase, reduction in specific energy consumption and beyond this eliminate manual pelletizing discs optimization, an advanced and automatic control system called "Granulometro" was installed in Vale's Pelletizing plants.
