摘要

Ti-15Mo is a metastable β-alloy belonging to the second generation Titanium alloys for medical applications. It does not contain critical elements like Aluminum or Vanadium. In addition, in the solution treated state, the Young's modulus is comparatively low so that the stress-shielding effect is diminished. Unfortunately, in this state, the static strength is relatively low too. Therefore, for implant applications the strength has to be increased. Increased strengths can be achieved by the precipitation of nano-cryslalline ω-phase in Ti-15Mo. To do so, heat treatments at temperatures between 225°C and 350°C were carried out The ω-phase caused an increase in strength and in the Young's modulus. Even if the ductility strongly decreased, the presence of ω-phase in low amounts led to an improved fatigue strength compared to the solution treated state.
