The aim of this work is to apply the eddy-viscosity based near-wall treatment for LES proposed in to complex flows such as the flow in a channel with one wall forming a hill-shaped periodic constriction and the flow in a serpentine channel. The near-wall treatment is evaluated for both coarse grids with a wall stress model and with wall-resolved grids coarsened in wall-parallel directions. The impact of pressure gradient and curvature is investigated in detail. The results are compared to wall-resolved LES for the hill and to the DNS for the serpentine.
