Concrete and steel structures are an integral part of society. Today all water systems and the treatment facilities are constructed from concrete and steel, both susceptible to corrosion under many conditions. Considerable effort goes into the design and construction of assets whether they are equipment of infrastructure, the concrete pipes, sewerage pumping stations and storage facilities. These represent considerable financial investment and protection of these assets and preserving the protection will provide maximum operational life. There are various ways to protect concrete and steel from corrosion. This is a simple overview of the common systems in use and outlines the various products strengths and weaknesses, and introduces a new class characterizing all that the modern world seeks in relation to instant results, instant outcomes, performance and gratification. While steel is generally the primary material that comes to mind when corrosion is mentioned, this paper places a significant emphasis on concrete in the water industry.
