Corrosion performance of two reinforcing materials, low carbon steel and AISI Type 316 stainless steel, embedded in inorganic polymer concrete was evaluated in this study. Their performance was compared with that of the identical reinforcing materials in Portland cement based concrete. Measurements of free corrosion potential, E_(corr), solution resistance, R_s, and polarisation resistance, R_p, were conducted using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and linear polarisation resistance technique during the concretes' setting period as well as during immersion of the fully set casts in distilled water. The experimental results showed that the change in E_(corr), R_s, and R_p during both periods can, semi-quantitatively, reveal useful information on the performance of reinforcing materials in concrete systems. IR-drop corrected values of corrosion rates were used in the deterministic model to predict field performance, with the model accounting for dependence of CR on the cast saturation throughout a period of one year.
