A new oxovanadium(IV) complex, [VO(ο-van-phe)(phen)] (1) (ο-van-phe = Schiff base derived from ο-vanillin and L-phenylalanine, phen =1,10-phenanthroline), has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The results show that complex 1 belongs to triclinic crystal system, with P-l space group, a=10.646(2) A, b=11.089(3) A, c=14.143(4) A, α=67.374(4)°, β=79.685(4)°, γ=89.711(4)°, 2=2, V=1512.5(7) A~3, Dc =1.195 mg?m~(-3), μ=0.366 mm~(-1), F(000)=562. In the molecular structure, the V(IV) ion is six coordinated to form a distorted octahedral geometry. In the crystal, a dimer is formed by intermolecular hydrogen bonding and π-π stacking interactions.
