The ultra-long optical fiber of optoelectronic oscillator (OEO) and the high spectral purity of the high frequency microwave signal open the possibility of high-accuracy distance measurement at long range. Sensitivity of distance measurement is highly depending on the length of the cavity. Base on the theory of optoelectronic oscillator and the distance measurement method, the sensitivity is calculated and the demand for spectral-purity of microwave signal are proposed and verified by experiments. Consider the demands of the measurement sensitivity, the spectral purity and the measurement range, as well as the error introduced by environment, the fiber length of OEO would be about 1 km when the resolution of frequency measurement is 1Hz.
