The barrier properties and two-dimensional geometry of graphene make it a promising anticorrosive additive in organic coating. Besides, graphene reinforced polymer coatings were expected to have exceptional mechanical and electrical properties. Graphene oxide (GO) readily dispersed in water were regarded as a convenient precursor of graphene to produce graphene reinforced composite coatings. In this report, GO, mildly reduced GO (RGO) and titanate-functionalized graphene (TGO) were employed as reinforcements in waterborne polyurethane (PU)-matrix composites. A significant improvement of anticorrosive properties was achieved.
