Generally, a DSSC consists of following main components: nano-crystalline TiO2 electrode, Ru-based dye, electrolyte containing a redox couple (I3~-/I~-), and Pt electrode. Counter electrode, as one important component in DSSCs, is usually constructed with a conducting glass substrate coated with platinum film. The Pt counter electrode is an indispensable component in a DSSC and its role is to collect electrons from external circuit and reduce I3- to I- in electrolyte [1].
