摘要

Plasma keyhole welding (PKW) is one of the fusion welding processes. Recently, PKW has received a lot of attention because it can realize high speed welding, deeper weld penetration and, furthermore, smaller thermal distortion. However, it has been pointed out that it is difficult to obtain the stability of keyhole during the welding process. To improve the stability, an understanding of weld pool formation mechanism is essential. By conventional X-ray systems, nevertheless, only two-dimensional images of the welding convection flow were acquired. On the other hand, our new X-ray transmission system can obtain three-dimensional images of welding convection flow by tracering the tungsten particles with the diameter of 0.7 mm. Hence, our system is an ideal way to investigate the welding convection flow the in welding pool. In this research, the three-dimensional welding convection flow inside the weld pool around keyhole is presented. Futhermore, influence of oxygen in shielding gas on driving force of convective flow in the weld pool is discussed.
