REDUCTION OF WAVE OVERTOPPINGIN THE OOSTENDE PROJECT

Physical model tests have been carried out to investigate the effect of two basic measures on the reduction of wave overtopping at the Oostende sea dike: (i) a beach nourishment and (ii) a Stilling Wave Basin. The objectives of the tests are described together with the test facilities and the measurement technique. Results of the tests are presented. For every studied measure, a comparison between the overtopping discharges with and without the specific measure is made to assess its efficiency. Finally some conclusions are drawn.
