As awareness of impulsive wave loadings increases, choosing the appropriate measurement methods to investigate wave loading in physical models becomes more important to both designers and laboratories. Over the last 15 years, a series of wave impact failures of various structures has increased the need to account for dynamic responses of coastal or port structures under impulsive loads. This in turn has pushed the need to measure impulsive loading in the physical model. This paper discusses some of the most commonly used measurement systems available to laboratories and considerations needed by both designers and laboratories when modelling wave loadings.
