Introduction Feeding high concentrate diets induced subacute ruminal acidosis (SARA).SARA occurs often accompany with food intake depression.But the mechanism of this depression in central brain is lacking.Results of Real-time PCR were that,compared with the control group,mRNA expression of hypothalamic agouti-related protein (AgRP) was significantly decreased (P<0.05),and neuropeptide Y (NPY) mRNA expression showed a tendency to decrease (P=0.052) in the goats of the SARA group.However,no significant differences of pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) or melanocortin receptor 4 (MCR4) in hypothalamus were observed between two groups.The depression of food intake of SARA goats was associated with the down-regnlatedmRNA expressions of AgRP and NPY in hypothalamus in our study.
