FePt alloy thin films with thickness ranging from 17nm to 77nm have been prepared by dc sputtering deposition at ambient temperature, and subsequently post-annealed at 450°C for 1 hour. The structural and magnetic properties of the prepared samples were characterized by x-ray diffractometer and vibrating sample magnetometer respectively. The prepared samples show a chemically disordered fcc (111) FePt structure and magnetically soft behavior with low coercivity that is less than 4030e. The thick FePt films have larger grain size compared to the thin FePt films. As the film thickness increases, the coercivity increases, while the remanent magnetization and saturation magnetization decrease.
