The EEG during a seizure (ictal EEG) has specific electrophysiologic characteristicsof the underlying changes in spatially and temporally ordered brain networksynchrony. Recent advances in methods of signal analysis [1] have provided animproved accuracy in describing the frequency components of the ictal EEG.Time-frequency analyses of intracranial EEG (ICEEG) recordings from patientswith mesial temporal lobe epilepsy reveal common elements in evolution of thisseizure type. These elements are represented by rapidly evolving dynamic changes,including a period of organized rhythmic activity that undergoes a monotonicdecline in frequency before transitioning to a period of intermittent bursting priorto seizure termination [2].
