Hydrodynamic Response of Converter Target Impacted by High-Current Relativistic Electron Beam

摘要

The typical response of the X-ray converter material impacted by an intense relativistic electron beam is vaporization and rapid expansion. In the multi-pulse electron beam/target interaction, as the target expands on the inter-pulse time scale, the density of material decreases, eventually affecting the X-ray output of the system. We report survey of the hydrodynamic response of the target material by numerical simulation and experiments to understand the material dynamics and the output of each pulse in the multi-pulse beam/target interaction. The results indicate that the multi-layer target design for three high-power electron beam pulses is feasible.
