Microfluidic LTCC Devices for Cellular Biology

Low Temperature Cofired Ceramic (LTCC) materials are being considered as a platform for the integration of microfluidic channels with electronic tools and sensors for complex bioanalysis. Most biochips are currently fabricated on silicon, glass or polymeric substrates. Each of these substrate materials imposes limits on the functionality, durability, and overall complexity of the microfluidic system. Despite rapid progress in the development of such microfluidic systems, the overall integration and flexibility of these techniques is limited by the capabilities of current substrate materials. This work will discuss techniques and advantages of LTCC technology and possible biotech applications.
