摘要

Optical communications has enjoyed explosive growth in terms of technical ical achievement as well as commercial implementation. This paper will contain three main sections. Firstly, a broad perspective will be given on some of the future trends in optical commun communication ication systems. Secondly, technical issues will be described that relate to stable, robust optical networking, including performance monitoring, channel channel-degrading effects, and switching. Finally, adding flexibility and reconfigurability to different asp aspects of the base optical ects technologies will be discussed.
