摘要

The first U.S. publicly funded offshore wind/wave measurement campaign began in the Atlantic Ocean in June 2005 on a fixed structure 15 km southeast of New York City Harbor. The objective is to characterize the wind/wave environment of the mid-Atlantic region through the application of innovative measurement and modeling techniques. The results of this work are intended to help the offshore wind industry better quantify the design criteria and load conditions within the region, thereby reducing project costs and risks. One of the country's first offshore wind plants (140 MW), the Long Island Power Authority's (LIPA) Offshore Wind Park, is scheduled to be commissioned in 2009 at a site approximately 30 km away.
