摘要

Some recent results of molten metal processing in a cold wall induction crucible (or induction skull melting) using a plasma arc torch to assist are presented. Of particular interest are the difficult-to-process alloys having unique properties. A preliminary case study was performed on a copper niobium alloy to determine the effect upon the microstructure of molten metal stirring via induction melting in combination with the intense heating from the plasma arc torch. The results point to a potentially unique processing alternative which may aid in bringing difficult-to-process alloys into more common use.
