Core-shell biocompatible polymeric nano-particles were obtained in aqueous solution with insoluble interpolymer complex of gelatin and poly(acrylic acid)(PAA) as core and soluble gelatin as shell (denoted as gelatin/PAA nano-particles). We prepared narrowly distributed gelatin/PAA nano-particles at relatively higher concentration (30mg/mL) via in-situ polymerization of acrylic acid in the aqueous solution of biocompatible gelatin. Dynamic light scattering and electrophoretic light scattering techniques were used to trace the in-situ polymerization process. Glutaraldehyde was used as cross-linking reagent for gelatin to lock the structure of the particles. Furthermore, the pH responsive behaviors of gelatin/PAA nano-particles before and after cross-linking were studied.
