The steel industry has become very attractive in the last years. That means high growth rates and a high profitability of the steelmaking companies. But it is still very difficult to get qualified personnel due to strong competition with other industries. The steel companies must compete for appropriate personnel. As a consequence the existing personnel must be qualified at all hierarchy levels on management as well as technical skills. It is important to qualify young people, not only to meet the "skill demand", but also to overcome the aging of the workforce. Of course this costs some money and the question arises why the steel industry shall do this? The straight and honest answer is: Investment in the education of people leads to a motivational increase which is followed by higher productivity and lower cost.
