Transformation temperatures of NiTi alloys depend mainly on chemical composition [1]. Varying the nickel content between 51 and 50 [at.%] changes the transformation temperatures from -170°C to 80°C. This makes the large scale industrial production of functional NiTi alloy components with precisely set functional properties extremely difficult. Nevertheless, NiTinol suppliers are currently delivering to the market a wide range of NiTi alloy components in hard (cold worked) and/or annealed state with relatively well defined mechanical and functional properties (typically characterized by austenite finish temperature A_f).
