Continuous natural fiber reinforced thermoplastic composites are deemed to be a more eco-friendly material. However, Natural fiber itself has low strength, high moisture absorption in the process of fabricating the composite, it is difficult to impregnate the thermoplastic resin into reinforcement fiber because of the high melt viscosity. In this study, natural fibers were incorporated into POM/PLA blend to produce composites with high content of green materials. Continuous jute fibers in the form of spun yarns were used as the reinforcement and encapsulated with resin fibers through a technique known as micro-braiding to yield micro-braided yarns. This technique is known to enhance impregnation of the resin into the reinforcement fibers. The resin fibers consist of neat POM or PLA or a combination of both at various ratios. The effects the PLA/POM ratios on the mechanical properties of the composites were investigated.
