摘要

The traditional pipeline security monitoring methods, such as means based on modeling or signal processing, can point out the leakage position when the leak occurred, but can not detect the intrusion that threatens the pipeline's security while the leak has not happened. A novel method based on a sagnac interferometer is proposed in this paper. When an intrusion or a leak is acting on the Sagnac optical fiber ring along the oil or gas pipeline, the characteristic of the optical fiber will be changed. If the intrusion or the leak is modeled as a time-varying signal, the outputs from the Sagnac interferometer can be used to synchronously detect the disturbance and determine the position of the disturbance in theory.
