Climate change: opportunities or threat for forest management?

Climate change threatens to have significant negative impacts on forests and forest health. Therefore, effective action is needed to address climate change (first threat). Examples of impacts on forest include; changes in precipitation, new insects and diseases, increased frequency and severity of fires. There are forest management activities that exacerbate climate change; for instance, deforestation and conversion of primary forests (second threat). There is a loss of carbon due to conversion of primary forests. Carbon credits are not equivalent to fossil fuel reductions (third threat). Sinks should not have been included in the Kyoto Protocol.
