Do Your Measures Measure Up? Using Key Performance Indicators to Drive Operational Effectiveness

We often think of measurements in terms of the physical. The SI system forms the basis for all our measurements. Or does it? While in the physical world this system of measurement holds sway, what about in the realm of managing our operations and businesses? Do we have a comparable Systeme International d'Unites for measuring operational effectiveness? If we do have measures, are they measures that drive increased effectiveness or only document the tale of less than stellar past performance? This paper deals with how to identify, develop, and utilize Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to drive greater operational effectiveness.
