Process Properties of Electrodeposited Nanocrystalline Cobalt-Phosphorus Alloys in Comparison to Hard Chrome Plating For Non-Line of Sight Coating Applications(文摘)
Electrodeposited nanocrystalline Co-P alloy coatings have recently been developed as part of a pollution prevention program seeking an environmentally benign alternative to hard chrome plating for Non-Line of Sight (NLOS) applications. The processing and properties of electrodeposited nanocrystalline cobalt-phosphorus alloys are presented and compared to that of hard chrome coatings. The unique grain structure of the nanocrystalline Co-P coatings results in excellent mechanical properties due to Hall-Petch strengthening. These mechanical properties meet, and in some cases exceed the hardness and wear performance of current hard chromium plating technologies. In this paper the synthesis and properties of nanocrystalline cobaltphosphorus coatings on NLOS surfaces will be outlined, focusing on key points such as: hydrogen embrittlement, wear, corrosion and fatigue performance.
