In some maritime engineering researches, the approach of simulation using the navigation simulators for that are convenient to set random complex environment situations has become an effective means. The paper will discuss the application and approach about fairway engineering research using navigation simulation. On the basic of results to ship auto-piloting and track-keeping in the fairway navigation, the paper holds out a method on fast simulation with the ship-handling characteristics of mariners, then gives an application on waterway engineering researches utilizing ship-handling characteristics of mariners.
