This chapter studies the dynamic buckling of elastic-plastic structures, such as beams, plates and shells, when subjected to an axial impact at one end. The investigation is based on the theory of stress wave propagation. The end conditions and consistency conditions at a stress wave front as well as the bifurcation conditions of the dynamic buckling are formulated according to the solution of disturbing equations obtained. Critical budding loads and the associated buckling modes are presented. It shows that a non-symmetric buckling may occur in symmetric structures when a symmetric impact load is applied.
